November Fermentation

Come join us for the November potluck of the Live-Culture Food Club. We had a wonderful time at our last meeting, sampling honey mead, sourdough bread, and homemade yogurt. This time, among other things, we plan to share green tea kombucha, milk kefir, mango-ginger water kefir, yogurt, mead, and more sourdough bread--along with whatever else people bring with them. We also plan to exchange kombucha mothers, milk and water kefir grains, sourdough starter, and yogurt starter.

Even more important, we hope to continue what we think is at the heart of the club: the cultivation of community, the practice of culture. Our aim is to encourage one another in our projects, culinary and otherwise. While we’ve been inspired by Sandor Katz’s book Wild Fermentation and have a queer—LGBTXYZ—focus, we're sure that anyone who's interested in sustainable agriculture, urban gardening, local foods, home-production, do-it-yourself, nutritional healing, and the fermented foods revolution will find this group a joyful and fruitful gathering. All you have to do is bring a fermented food to share--either something you’ve made (with recipes to hand out) or something you’d LIKE to make (and a notebook!). We'll continue to see happens!

DIRECTIONS:

From downtown Seattle, by bus: Take the 55 or 54 to West Seattle and get off at the Alaska Junction stop. Walk to the west end of the block that you got off on and turn to your right where there is another bus stop. Catch the 51 here. Get off at the stop at Charlestown and 53rd. Walk south on 53rd; our house is the third on the left.

From I-5, by car: Take the West Seattle Bridge exit. From the West Seattle Bridge, take the Admiral Way exit. Stay on Admiral until 49th Ave. SW. Turn left on 49th Ave. SW. At Charlestown, where there is a stop sign, turn right. From Charlestown, turn left on 53rd Ave. SW. Our house is the third on the left.
